You will typically receive your order in 7-10 business days.

Before shipment, we quarantine all fish for at least 24-48 hours. During this period, we closely monitor the fish to make sure they are healthy. We also do not feed them during this time in order to 'clean out' their digestive system and limit their ability to soil the water. This lessens the chance of fish dying in transit due to poor water quality. Once the quarantine process is completed, your fish will then be packed and shipped via FedEx Next Day Delivery on the next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or sometimes Thursday (depending on your location) - whichever comes first. In most cases, we do NOT ship Friday or Saturday.

We ship via FedEx.

The primary reason we choose to ship Next Day Delivery is to limit the time the fish spend in transit to minimize their stress so you can receive them as healthy as possible and ready for acclimation. We do not ship Next Day Delivery so that you are able to receive your fish the day after you order them. This is a very common misconception and we hope this clarifies this often asked question.

If you were to check Next Day shipping on a package that weighs 6-7 pounds and measures a minimum of 7" x 7" x 7" (this is the typical size on our smallest order), you will find that it is quite costly. Once we include the cost of shipping materials, we make no profit on our shipping fee. In comparison with other online tropical fish sellers, our shipping fee is extremely competitive. You may find a seller with lower shipping fees but take a look at what the pricing is on their fish. We ask that you take the time to do a comparison between our shipping fee, pricing on our fish compared to other sellers, our customer reviews and make your decision based on what you find.

When you place an order with us, you will receive an Order Confirmation Email immediately after your purchase and a Shipping Notification Email on the day we ship your order. The Shipping Notification Email will include Tracking information. Please note that there will be several days in between the receipt of these emails.

Fish are packed in insulated boxes, with clean water and pure oxygen. Heat packs or cool packs are added at no additional cost when necessary. We have had extreme cases where packages have been delayed and still survived. While we would never intentionally put our fish in that situation, delays are sometimes inevitable. In the unlikely event that you receive a perished fish, we have a Live Arrival Guarantee and you can choose to receive a credit on a future order or a refund. In order to receive the credit or refund, we require:

  • A clear picture within 2 hours of delivery of the perished fish. Please remove the fish from the bag and take a photo of the fish on a flat, white surface. Ideally, a paper towel or the cover of the delivery box can be used for this purpose. Email the photo to us at: info@theiFISHstore.com.
    Note: The 2-hour window means you must send the information within 2 hours of receiving your fish. We will get back to you as soon as possible but it may not be within that 2-hour window. Nevertheless, we will honor our Live Arrival Guarantee.)
  • You were home to receive your fish on the first delivery attempt. Please note that we do not refund shipping costs.

All shipping fees are non-refundable. NO EXCEPTIONS.

NO. We do not reship orders or fish. Guarantees are processed through store credit or refund ONLY. We are happy to assess a store credit or refund on a case-by-case basis.

Once your fish order has been prepared for shipment, you will receive a tracking number by email. We package them with pure oxygen and pack them in insulated boxes. It is best to have someone home when the fish arrive, so that your package does not sit outside your door in the hot or cold weather.

Once you have done your research on the fish that you want to buy, you need to make sure that you have the proper environment for your fish to live in. That means having a healthy, cycled tank for them to go into. Always use aged aquarium water with healthy bacteria in it.

Most pictures are taken with adult fish who are showing their maximum color and size potential. Any fish that was just shipped will be stressed. Allow a day or two (or occasionally more) for the fish to acclimate to their new environment - their color will return. This stress can also affect a fish's appetite. They may not eat for the first day or two. Be careful to not overfeed during this period, as uneaten food will rot and diminish the water quality.
