Breeding & Spawning: Discus will lay their eggs on broad leaved plants like Amazon Swords or almost any vertical flat surface that is to their liking. Fry are best kept with the parents as they will eat the slime that the parents secrete. At two weeks of age they will start to accept finely ground flake food or baby brine shrimp.
Gender: Venting is the best way to sex Discus.

GOLDEN DISCUS OVERVIEW
Mesmerize people and draw them to your aquarium with a Golden Discus fish. A Golden Discus is a brilliant yellow color that can catch someone’s attention from across the room! The vibrant color they bring will create a colorful and diverse environment that any fish hobbyist can admire.
A Golden Discus is one of the more popular varieties of discus because of its yellow glow. This discus is found in the freshwater of the Amazon basin in South America and reaches a size of up to 7” — with the male Golden Discus being larger in size when compared to the female.
As its name suggests, the Golden Discus is round and flat just like a discus! The fins are yellow and are often found with black accents towards the outer edges of the fins.
Like other discus breeds, the Golden Discus is amicable in an aquarium with its friends which includes other discus fish.
If you're a new fish hobbyist, Golden Discus’ aren’t generally recommended because of the constant care and attention they require, but if you have experience and skills in keeping proper water conditions, the discus is an amazing fish to introduce to your aquarium.
SETTING UP THE AQUARIUM: GOLDEN DISCUS
As we mentioned, the Golden Discus aquarium takes an experienced fish hobbyist because of all the details and special attention it needs to keep them alive, healthy, and thriving.
The water conditions are the most important and require a temperature range of 82 to 86 degrees F, a pH range of 6.4 to 7.2, and a hardness of 1 to 3 KH. Discus also like room to roam so a fish tank size of at least 50 gallons is ideal.

Golden discus also require very clean water to stay healthy, so it’s vital to install proper filtration and dedicate time, sometimes weekly, to changing the water. Changing the water takes into a couple of different factors including the size of your aquarium, the substrate being used, and the amount of fish and plant life you have in the aquarium.
Keep in mind if you plan on breeding Golden Discus, you will need to do one water change per day!
Golden Discus are compatible with a variety of other fish and because they are slower moving fish, they like to be paired with other slow-moving fish.
GOLDEN DISCUS DIET
Golden Discus requires a high protein diet, so naturally, they’re primarily carnivorous fish. These breeds of fish are known to not only eat algae, crustaceans, and insects but also bloodworms, first-rate flake food, pellets, and frozen organ meats such as beef hearts.
Golden Discus fish are the epitome of grazers — they’ll eat small portions throughout the day and can take up to an hour to eat when fed. It’s recommended that a few small feedings are given to a discus each day — large feedings can actually cause Golden Discus’ to bloat and this is potentially fatal.
IMPORTANT GOLDEN DISCUS RECOMMENDATIONS
Once your Golden Discus arrives, it’s important to follow the acclimation process and to never rush it.
It’s important to not place an air stone into the shipping bag because this will quickly disrupt the already established water conditions.
As your Golden Discus acclimates, it’s important to keep the aquarium light to a minimum with the recommendation of keeping them completely off at least four hours into its arrival.
Avoid feeding your Golden Discus right away. Instead, give them some time to adjust and resume normal feeding within a 24-hour window. They may look hungry, but it’s critical to give them this window before their first feeding.
