Temperament: Semi-aggressive
Diet & Nutrition: Omnivore; feed mainly on small fish, and on rare occasions may nibble on some vegetation. Should be fed a quality cichlid pellet, occasionally supplemented with frozen krill, mysis or brine shrimp.
Breeding & Spawning: Egg Layer and mouth brooder. Females may carry the eggs and fry in their mouth for two weeks or longer. It is a good idea to keep several females with one male when breeding. This will help spread out any aggression displayed by the male.
Gender: Males are larger and all electric blue with a yellow, orange or red anal fin. Females are silver with faint vertical bars, though they can be a very faint blue when mature.
