Scientific Name: Tropheus Duboisi
Common Name: White-Spotted Cichlid, Duboisi
Adult Size: 5 inches
Life Expectancy: 5 years
Habitat: Lake Tanganyika, Africa
Minimum Tank Size: 50 gallons
Ideal Tank Conditions:
- Temperature Range: 78°F
- pH Range: 7.0 - 8.0
- Hardness Range: 10 - 20
Temperament: Semi-aggressive
Diet & Nutrition: Herbivore; diet should be high in vegetable matter. Offer dried seaweed or romaine lettuce on a feeding clip daily, and supplement their diet with a quality vegetable based flake or pellet food.
Breeding & Spawning: Maternal mouthbrooder and harem spawners. A perfect breeding colony would be about 8 males and 20 or so females in a 125 gallon tank. As aggressive as these fish are, they are great parents and won’t usually eat their young.
Gender: The sexes are hard to distinguish. There are some subtle differences in growth rate and body shape, but the only guaranteed method is to examine the genital papillae of the fish, but this is recommended to experts only. The genital papillae is pointed in the male and rounded in the female.
